Austin EMC calibrates EMC Antennas the following ways.
For a pair of identical antennas a two antenna method can be used.
Normally a three antenna method is used which determines the Gain
and Antenna Factor of each of the three antennas.
WIFI antennas are tested on a slant range using Scientific Atlanta positioners
and recorders to characterize antenna patterns. Gain is determined by
substitution.
We currently do not calibrate tuned dipoles using an open field method.
Instead we calibrate them by characterizing the balun loss using a Network
Analyzer.
The loss is then subtracted from
2.15 dB. The antenna factor
is then computed from the gain. This will be more accurate than
most antenna calibrations and will be well within .5 dB.
The cost for a Broadband Antenna Calibration is $275 per Antenna.
